Achieving the rank of Purple Belt is the next milestone for the students. Training for this level involves a concentration in honing the basics, full-speed sparring, and a set of more advanced techniques. It is difficult to get any more specific than this because the highly personalized training each student receives will be different for all. Nevertheless, an adequate regimen of sparring and physical conditioning is common throughout all levels of training.

The following techniques or “combinations” are mandatory* for attaining the Purple Belt:

Spiraling Wrists
Spreading The Leaves
Flowing Hands
Driving Elbows
Crossing Talon
Cutting The Pagoda
Eagle Pin
Shackle Break
Opening Cowl
Arm Hook
Crossing The Sun
Attack From The Temple
Crouching Falcon
Opening The Fan
Grasping Talon
Striking Asp
Arching Blades

Along with these techniques, the student is also required to perfect the Kata “Long One.”

* The full set is mandatory for adult students. Younger students are required to learn a partial set according to their instructor.
